Staff Requirements for Tutors, Assessors, and Internal Quality Assurers at Focus Awards

We pride ourselves on providing a large range of qualifications that meet industry standards and exceed expectations.

A critical component of our success lies in the expertise and qualifications of centres and their staff.

Whether you’re a Tutor, Assessor, or Internal Quality Assurer, we have specific requirements to ensure that learners receive the best possible guidance and support from qualified and knowledgeable staff members.

Please note that CPD qualifications, or qualifications that are not recognised will not be accepted.

Requirements for Tutors:

  • Tutors must either hold or be working towards a recognised teaching qualification.

Accepted qualifications include:

  • Levels 3, 4, or 5 in Education and Training, PGCE’s, or degrees in teaching

We are open to considering other teaching qualifications upon submission.

Beyond formal qualifications, it is essential for tutors to demonstrate occupational competence within their sector area.

Requirements for Assessors:

  • Assessors play a crucial role in evaluating our learners’ competence and achievements. Therefore, they must hold or be working towards a relevant assessing qualification.

Accepted qualifications include:

  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Competence in the Work Environment
  • Level 3 Award in Assessing Vocationally-Related Achievement
  • Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement
  • A1 Assessing qualification
  • D32/D33 Assessing qualification

We are willing to consider other assessing qualifications upon submission.

Those assessors who hold the Level 3 Award in Understanding the Principles and Processes of Assessment, will be required to complete an additional programme of study to achieve the relevant competency units required for one of the qualifications listed above.

Trainee assessors who have not yet obtained an assessment qualification will need to have their decisions countersigned by a qualified assessor. As with our tutors, it is imperative that assessors demonstrate occupational competence within their sector area to ensure they are fully equipped to evaluate learner performance accurately.

Requirements for Internal Quality Assurers (IQA):

  • Internal Quality Assurers are responsible for maintaining the quality of assessment processes. Therefore, they should hold or be working towards an IQA qualification.

Accepted qualifications include:

  • V1 (previously D34)
  • Level 4 Award in the Internal Quality Assurance of Assessment Processes and Practices

We are open to considering other relevant IQA qualifications upon submission. For trainee IQA’s who do not yet hold a qualification, their decisions must be countersigned by a qualified IQA.

As with tutors and assessors, IQA’s must also be able to demonstrate occupational competence to ensure they can effectively oversee and maintain high-quality assessment standards.

We also accept a Tutor and Assessor being the same member of staff if they hold the correct qualifications. Please make sure you have a separate staff member who is an IQA, as approval may be denied if they have more than one role, and is also a conflict of interest.

Upskills may be required if you hold CPD and non-regulated qualifications. We will add approval of the qualification in the instance staff agree to upskill to a regulated version of the qualification, the timescale for this is 12 months.

All staff members applying to deliver qualifications must also provide up to date CVs, and well documented CPD logs.
